'I killed my husband Raja Raghuwanshi': What Sonam Raghuvanshi said in her confession to Meghalaya police

Sonam Raghuvanshi confessed to plotting her husband Raja's murder during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. She admitted to paying Raj Kushwaha Rs 50,000 to track their movements and arrange accomplices. Raja was killed near Wei Sawdong Falls, and Sonam later reappeared in Uttar Pradesh after a brief disappearance, while Raj maintains his innocence.
Rs 50,000 allegedly paid for planning and tracking
According to the police, Sonam paid Rs 50,000 to Raj Kushwaha, her alleged lover, to arrange travel for himself and three others—Vishal Singh, Anand Kurmi, and Akash Rajput—to Shillong. She also asked them to monitor her and Raja's movements during their honeymoon trip.The accused first took a train from Indore to Delhi between May 17 and 18 and then boarded the Rajdhani Express to Guwahati. Raja and Sonam flew from Indore to Shillong on May 20.
Sonam’s return to Indore, disappearance and reappearance
Raja was believed to have been killed on either May 23 or 24. Police said the accused returned to Indore on May 25.According to Madhya Pradesh police, Sonam returned to Indore after her husband’s murder. She met Raj Kushwaha in a rented room and then planned her next steps before resurfacing in Uttar Pradesh.
Tracking through location-sharing apps
Police said Sonam used different mobile apps to stay in direct and private contact with Raj during the trip. She reportedly shared her live location, which helped the accused follow her and her husband.While Raj maintains that he was in Indore during this period, police are still verifying whether he was present at the crime scene or involved in the murder. Investigators are now working to match his statements with those of the other accused and gather evidence to confirm each person's role.
Sonam had gone missing on May 23 near Wei Sawdong Falls in Meghalaya, where she and Raja were on a honeymoon. On June 2, Raja’s body was found in a gorge near the falls. Sonam was found in a dazed state at a dhaba in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, on June 9.
"We have information that Sonam reached Indore between May 25 and May 27 by train and stayed in a rented room in Dewas Gate," said Indore additional DCP (Crime Branch) Rajesh Dandotiya. "Raj Kushwaha, her co-accused, met her there. He later arranged a taxi to UP."
