The service went down in the last few hours, according to outage tracking platform Down Detector, which logged over 1,000 complaints in the UK and nearly 500 in the US.

Users getting ChatGPT error messages

The ChatGPT error messages led to confusion among users. Some received an error message that read, "A network error occurred. Please check your connection and try again. If this issue persists please contact us through our help center at help.openai.com." Others encountered a vague response: "Hmm.. something seems to have gone wrong."

Users react on social media

Several users turned to social media to share their frustration and check if others were facing similar issues. One user posted on X (formerly Twitter), "ChatGPT, my work buddy, is down again." Another commented, "Apparently ChatGPT is down globally. I thought my internet was glitching."


OpenAI responds to complaints

OpenAI, which owns ChatGPT, acknowledged the problem and said it is investigating. According to the firm’s official service status page, "Some users are experiencing elevated error rates and latency across the listed services. We are investigating."


ChatGPT outages

As per experts, outages can occur for many reasons. These include internal errors such as a failed software update, or more serious causes like cyber attacks.

The extent of the current outage is still unclear, and OpenAI has not confirmed how many users are affected or when the service will be fully restored.
